About 7 months ago, I threw away all of my makeup (read more about that here). As much as I loved my Maybelline mascaras and Revlon eyeliners, I knew it was full of unsafe chemicals. I started feeling more and more uneasy about putting toxic (hormone-disrupting and carcinogenic) chemicals on my face. That was when I decided it was time to “let it goooooo!” I realized no makeup product, no matter how great, is worth compromising my health. So, I chucked all of my makeup out and slowly started a new collection.
*Note* Yes, I do realize that EVERYTHING is made up of chemicals. My goal is to avoid the potentially harmful ones.
This is what I currently put on my face:
I like this BB cream because it is affordable, has clean ingredients, and contains a good amount of SPF. It also has a refreshing citrus scent. This BB cream provides sheer coverage. I normally just wear concealer and powder, but I’ll use this if I want a little bit more coverage.
Active Ingredients: Zinc Oxide (20%)
Inactive Ingredients: Aloe Barbadensis Juice (Organic), Simmondsia Chinensis (Jojoba) Oil (Organic), Helianthus Annuus (Sunflower) Oil (Organic), Sorbitan Stearate, Glyceryl Stearate, Fruit Stem Cell Complex (Organic), BioActive 8 Berry Complex (Organic), Caprylic/Capric Triglycerides, Hyaluronic Acid, Cucumis Sativus (Cucumber) Extract (Organic), Punica Granatum (Pomegranate) Oil (Organic), Algae Extract, Cucumis Melo (Melon) Extract, Magnesium Sulfate, Aspalathus Linearis (Rooibos), Camellia Sinensis (White Tea) Extract (Organic, Fair Trade), Hibiscus Rosa Sinensis Extract (Organic, Fair Trade), Iron Oxide, Phenethyl Alcohol, Ethylhexylglycerin, Citrus Aurantium Dulcis (Orange) Oil
Step 2. RMS Beauty “Un” Cover-up [Shade: 22]
This concealer is probably the priciest makeup item I own. I splurged on this because it has VERY clean ingredients. The ingredient list for this concealer is extremely short and contains ingredients I actually recognize. This concealer provides decent but not full coverage. I have pretty bad dark circles and wish this covered them a bit more. Although it is pricey, it actually does last quite long. I’ve used it every day for the last 4-5 months and haven’t hit the bottom of the jar yet.
Step 3. Honeybee Gardens Pressed Mineral Powder Foundation [Shade: Luminous]
I love this pressed powder. I’m about to reorder it for the third time. It works well, has clean ingredients, and is reasonably priced.
* certified organic ingredient
This is probably my favorite thing from 100% Pure. I like this blush because it gives me a very natural-looking glow. It’s a bit pricey, but it should last a long time since it’s decently sized.
I received this holiday palette for Christmas. You can’t purchase it in stores anymore but you can order it online. I adore all the colors in this palette. Unfortunately, I threw away the box and can’t find the ingredients listed online. According to the BareMinerals website, its products are formulated without Parabens, Lead, and Phthalates (Source).
Step 6. Honeybee Gardens Jobacolors Eye Liner [Color: Jet Set]
I’ve reordered this twice already. It’s another one of my favorites from Honeybee Gardens. It looks great and glides on smoothly. This eyeliner does smudge a little, though. However, that may be due to the way my eyelids fold. I have not yet found an eyeliner that doesn’t smudge at all on me.
I’ve been using this eyelash curler since…forever. I freakin’ love it. It works very well on Asian eyes. Japonesque also has a cool “Curler Replacement Pad Program” where they send you a replacement pad for free!
Step 8. 100% Pure Fruit-Pigmented Maracuja Mascara [Color: Black Tea]
This mascara is great for natural-looking lashes. It will define your lashes but won’t add much length or volume. I like that it holds my curls and doesn’t make my eyelashes droop. It’s a bit pricey for me, so I’m not sure if I’d repurchase. I’d like to find something cheaper since I throw away my mascaras every 3 months.
Step 9: Anastasia Perfect Brow Pencil [Color: Medium Brown]
Thankfully, this eyebrow pencil actually contains safe ingredients. All the ingredients listed have a low hazard rating, according to the EWG Skin Deep Cosmetic Database. I was surprised because Anastasia isn’t exactly known to be a “green” makeup brand. This is probably my favorite eyebrow pencil because the medium brown shade is PERFECT for me. Not too dark, not too light, and not too reddish.
Step 10: 100% Pure Lip Glaze [Color: Lychee]
I don’t usually wear any lipsticks, but when I do, it’s this. This lip glaze glides on smoothly and doesn’t dry out your lips. I own three different shades, but Lychee is my favorite. Lychee is a natural, your-lips-but-better shade. I don’t wear it on a daily basis, but I’ll wear it if I want to look a little more “put together”.
Voila! That’s all. Since I’ll probably run out of makeup during my stay in Korea, there may be an upcoming post about “green” Korean beauty brands! As always, if you have any questions or comments, drop them below. 🙂
